First-ever Louisville Kings Football Game Is a Full Sellout, Breaking NAFL Expansion Team Records

Key keywords: Louisville Kings, first-ever football game, sellout event, Louisville downtown economy, NAFL expansion team, L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium, Kentucky football fanbase, minor league football, 2024 NAFL season, Nashville Vipers The first-ever regular season game for the newly launched Louisville Kings, the 2024 expansion team of the National Arena Football League (NAFL), has officially sold out of all publicly available tickets, team officials confirmed in a press release Wednesday. Scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. this Saturday against the Nashville Vipers at the L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium, the debut game has drawn unprecedented attention from sports fans across Kentucky and surrounding states. Team management reported that 12,750 total tickets were made available to the public, including 7,200 pre-purchased season passes and 5,550 single-game tickets that went on sale 11 days prior to the announcement. The single-game inventory sold out in just 12 hours after launch, with more than 3,100 fans added to a waitlist for last-minute cancellations as of Wednesday afternoon. Louisville Kings majority owner Mark Thompson told reporters that the sellout far exceeded the team’s initial pre-season projections, which had forecast a 75% attendance rate for the first home game. "We knew Louisville had a passionate sports fanbase, but this level of support is beyond anything we could have imagined," Thompson said. "For years, local football fans only had college football to cheer for between September and January, and we built this team to fill that gap in the market for year-round, accessible football entertainment." The sellout is already delivering tangible economic benefits to the greater Louisville area. Local tourism data shows that downtown hotel occupancy rates for this Saturday are 38% higher than the average for the same weekend in 2023, with 62% of out-of-town ticket holders coming from nearby Kentucky cities including Lexington, Bowling Green, and Owensboro. Downtown restaurant reservations for pre-game and post-game meals are up 52% compared to a typical Saturday, and local small business owners report a surge in pre-orders for game day catering and merchandise. NAFL officials also praised the Louisville Kings’ launch as the most successful debut for an expansion team in the league’s 12-year history. League spokesperson Maria Gonzalez noted that ticket revenue for the first game is 142% of the league’s average for a team’s first home match, and pre-sales for Kings branded merchandise, including their signature blue and gold jerseys, hats, and foam fingers, have already topped $275,000. Ahead of the game, the team has planned a 2-hour pre-game fan festival outside the stadium, featuring appearances from former NFL star and Kentucky native Randall Cobb, who will perform the ceremonial first kickoff, as well as live music from local bands, food trucks, and the debut of the team’s official mascot, King Louie the Lion. Head coach Ronald Carter shared that the team’s players have been extra motivated in practice this week after hearing the sellout news. "We know every seat in the house will be filled with people who believed in this team before we even played a single down," Carter said. "We’re going to leave everything on the field to give these fans a win they can be proud of."

I’ve been waiting for a professional football team in Louisville my whole life! I grabbed 4 tickets the second they went on sale for me and my teenage sons, we’re already painting our faces blue and gold for the pre-game tailgate. Can’t believe we get to be part of the first ever game crowd, this is gonna be a historic night for our city!

I bought season tickets back in February before we even had a full roster announced, and seeing the sellout news made my entire week. I’ve been a Louisville Cardinals football fan for decades, but having an arena football team to watch during the college offseason is perfect. The Kings better bring home a win for the first game, or we’ll be letting them hear it loud and proud next time!

I own a taco shop 3 blocks from the stadium, and our pre-orders for game day takeout and catering are already 3x our usual Saturday volume. This sellout is amazing not just for the team, but for every small business in downtown Louisville. We’re already planning to extend our hours for every home game this season, thank you Kings for bringing so much energy to our community!

I’m on the waitlist for tickets and checking my email every 10 minutes hoping for a cancellation. I live in Lexington and drove down to the team’s open practice last month, the players are so talented and engaged with fans, they deserve this full house. Even if I can’t get in, I’ll be hanging out at the fan festival outside to be part of the moment.
