The official box score for the April 3, 2026 college baseball matchup between the USF Bulls and UCF Knights, hosted at UCF’s John Euliano Park, confirms a tight 8-6 come-from-behind win for the visiting Bulls, ending UCF’s 7-game home winning streak and shaking up the American Athletic Conference (AAC) regular season standings.
Per the verified box score data, UCF held a 3-2 lead through the first 6 innings behind a dominant start from sophomore right-hander Tyler King, who pitched 5 complete innings, allowed only 4 hits and 2 earned runs, and recorded 3 strikeouts to earn a no-decision. The Knights’ offense got off to a hot start in the 2nd inning when All-American shortstop Ryan Torres hit his first of two home runs on the night, a 2-run shot to left field that put UCF up 2-0 early. UCF added another run in the 5th inning on an RBI single from right fielder Drew Miller, extending their lead to 3-1 before USF cut the deficit to 1 run in the top of the 6th.
The turning point of the game came in the top of the 7th inning, when UCF turned to reliever Cameron Reed out of the bullpen. Reed walked the first two batters he faced, then gave up a 1-run single to USF third baseman Liam Carter, followed by a 3-run double to left fielder Javier Mendez that cleared the bases and put the Bulls up 6-3. USF designated hitter Cole Bennett capped the 5-run inning with a solo home run to right center, pushing the lead to 7-3.
UCF fought back in the late innings, with Torres hitting his second home run of the night, a 2-run shot, in the bottom of the 8th to cut the lead to 7-5, and adding another run on a wild pitch in the 9th to get within 1 run. However, USF closer Nate Owens struck out UCF catcher Max Carter to end the game and earn his 8th save of the season.

As a UCF season ticket holder, I’m so frustrated with our bullpen tonight. Tyler King pitched an absolute gem through 5 innings, and Cameron Reed just blew it in the 7th. Ryan Torres was a beast with those two homers, he deserves way better than this loss. Hopefully we bounce back tomorrow for the second game of the series!
That 7th inning 3-run double from Javier Mendez was insane! I’ve been saying all season he’s the most underrated hitter in the AAC, and tonight he proved it. This win is huge for USF’s postseason chances, we might actually make the NCAA tournament this year if we keep playing like this.
Looking at the box score, the biggest difference is performance with runners in scoring position. UCF left 9 men on base, that’s unacceptable for a team that’s supposed to be a top 25 program. Their bullpen ERA has jumped almost a full run in the last three weeks, they need to fix that fast before the conference tournament starts.
I drove 2 hours from Tampa to watch this game, worth every minute! The atmosphere at John Euliano Park was electric even with the loss, can’t wait for the rubber match this weekend, it’s gonna be a total banger.
