Sheetz Unveils Major Indiana Expansion Plan: 100 New Stores to Launch, First Locations Coming to Indianapolis

The first batch of locations will launch in the Indianapolis metropolitan area, with groundbreaking scheduled to begin as early as 2025 and the first store openings expected by late 2025 or early 2026. Headquartered in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Sheetz has operated for nearly 70 years, building a loyal customer base across the Mid-Atlantic and parts of the Upper Midwest, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina. The brand is widely recognized for its 24/7 operating model, made-to-order food and beverage menu featuring customizable sandwiches, loaded fries, specialty coffee, and frozen drinks, competitively priced fuel, and popular My Sheetz rewards program that offers exclusive discounts and free items to frequent customers. In a public statement, Sheetz President and CEO Travis Sheetz noted that Indiana was selected as the next core market for expansion due to its strong population growth, high volume of cross-state highway traffic, and relatively underserved convenience retail space that lacks a player with Sheetz’s focus on fresh, affordable prepared food. “We have spent years evaluating potential new markets, and Indiana checks every box for our long-term growth goals,” said Sheetz. “We know customers across the state have been asking us to bring Sheetz to their communities, and we are excited to deliver the one-of-a-kind convenience experience our fans know and love.” Each new Sheetz location will employ between 30 and 50 full-time and part-time staff, meaning the full 100-store rollout will create an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 new jobs across Indiana. Following the initial launch in Indianapolis, the brand plans to expand to other major Indiana cities including Fort Wayne, Evansville, South Bend, and Terre Haute, as well as build locations along key interstate corridors such as I-65, I-70, and I-80 to serve commuters, cross-state travelers, and trucking fleets. Industry analysts note that Sheetz’s entry will likely disrupt Indiana’s existing convenience store market, which is currently dominated by chains including Speedway, Circle K, and Kum & Go. The competition is expected to drive improvements in food quality, fuel pricing, and customer experience across competing locations, benefiting all Indiana consumers.

I’ve been begging for Sheetz to come to Indiana ever since I tried their loaded fries and iced coffee on a road trip to Pittsburgh 3 years ago! The convenience store options around here are so boring, I can’t wait for the first location to open near me. I’ll definitely be signing up for the rewards program the second it launches.

This is a huge win for Indiana’s local economy. 100 stores means thousands of new entry-level and management jobs, plus the added tax revenue for local municipalities. Sheetz’s focus on fresh, made-to-order food will also push competing chains to upgrade their own offerings, which is great for every consumer in the state.

I drive between Chicago and Louisville 4 times a week, and I always stop at Sheetz when I’m passing through Ohio. Their restrooms are always clean, their food is way better than generic fast food stops, and their gas prices are consistently 10 to 15 cents cheaper than other chains. Having Sheetz locations along I-65 and I-70 in Indiana is going to save me so much time and money on my routes.
