Key keywords: Tesla Signature Series, Model S Plaid Signature Edition, Model X Plaid Signature Edition, Tesla limited production EV, Tesla Plaid final run, Tesla high-performance luxury EV, Signature Series pricing, Tesla 2024 product update, Tesla collector’s edition EV Tesla has officially announced its final limited production run of the Model S and Model X Plaid, branded as the "Signature Series", with a starting price of $159,420 for the Model S variant and $169,420 for the Model X variant, before optional add-ons and applicable tax incentives. This exclusive production run marks the end of manufacturing for the current generation of Tesla’s flagship performance electric vehicles, ahead of the anticipated launch of the next-generation Model S and X platform expected as early as 2025. Each Signature Series unit comes with a host of exclusive upgrades not available on standard Plaid models, including custom laser-etched "Signature Series" badging on the exterior B-pillar and interior dashboard, a full carbon fiber exterior trim package, bespoke 21-inch Arachnid forged wheels with a unique matte black finish, and premium Nappa leather upholstery with contrast stitching in a limited-edition Signature Red color. The previously optional Track Package, which includes carbon ceramic brakes, high-performance tires, and a track-tuned suspension calibration, is included as standard on all Signature Series units, adding roughly $20,000 in value compared to a similarly equipped standard Plaid model. Performance figures remain class-leading, with the Model S Plaid Signature Series delivering a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 1.99 seconds, a top speed of 200 mph, and an estimated EPA range of 402 miles on a single charge. The larger Model X Plaid Signature Series hits 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds, offers a top speed of 163 mph, and has an estimated EPA range of 333 miles. Reservations for the Signature Series opened globally on Tesla’s official website on August 14, 2024, with a $2,500 fully refundable deposit required to secure a build slot. Tesla has not disclosed the total number of units that will be produced for the Signature Series run, but multiple inside sources indicate the total production volume will be capped at 1,800 units globally, split roughly evenly between Model S and Model X variants. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024, with priority given to long-time Tesla owners who have previously purchased three or more new Tesla vehicles. In a statement released alongside the announcement, Tesla’s senior director of product planning said the Signature Series was designed as a "thank you to our most loyal fans and a celebration of the Plaid line’s legacy as the highest-performance production EVs ever made." Auto industry analysts predict the entire Signature Series run will sell out within 72 hours of reservations opening, citing strong demand for limited-edition Tesla vehicles, which have historically seen resale values 20-30% higher than standard production models within two years of delivery.

Wow, I’ve been waiting for a limited-edition Plaid model for years! I just put my deposit down for the Model S Signature Series this morning – the laser-etched badging and standard track package make that price tag totally worth it for me. I know this is going to hold its value way better than a standard Plaid, especially since it’s the final run of the current generation.

As someone who’s reviewed every iteration of the Model S since 2012, this Signature Series feels like the perfect send-off for a car that completely redefined the luxury EV segment. I’m curious to see how many units Tesla will produce – if it’s under 2,000, these will be collector’s items within 5 years easily. The $159k starting price is actually pretty reasonable when you factor in all the included upgrades that would cost extra on a standard Plaid.

I love Tesla performance vehicles, but I’m holding out for the next generation Model S that’s rumored to launch in 2025. The Signature Series is cool for collectors, but I’d rather wait for the new battery tech and updated infotainment system that the next gen will almost certainly have. That said, I won’t be surprised if the entire run sells out in less than a week – Tesla’s fan base is rabid for limited-edition drops like this.

As a collector of modern performance EVs, this is a no-brainer purchase for me. The fact that this is the final run of the current gen Plaid paired with all the exclusive badging and standard upgrades makes this one of the most exciting Tesla releases in the last 3 years. I just hope I’m fast enough to get a reservation before they’re all gone.
