The 74th edition of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, one of the most prestigious ATP 500 clay court events on the men's professional tennis calendar, has officially published its complete main draw lineups and full Day 1 schedule for Monday, April 13, 2026, kicking off seven days of elite red-clay competition at the historic Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899.
The 56-player men's singles draw features one of the strongest fields in tournament history, with 8 top-seeded players receiving first-round byes. Leading the seed list is 3-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, who is chasing a record-equaling 5th Barcelona title this year. Alcaraz will open his title defense later in the week against the winner of the first-round clash between American rising star Ben Shelton and Argentine clay specialist Francisco Cerundolo. The most anticipated storyline of the 2026 event is the farewell run of 14-time Barcelona champion Rafael Nadal, who confirmed last month that 2026 will be his final professional season. Nadal has been placed in the bottom half of the draw and will play his first-round opener on Tuesday, April 14 against a qualifier to be determined over the weekend of qualifying matches.
The April 13 Day 1 schedule includes 16 first-round men's singles matches and 8 first-round men's doubles matches across 7 competition courts. The iconic Pista Central will open at 11:00 AM local time, with the first match pitting former top-10 player Casper Ruud of Norway against French wild card entry Hugo Gaston, followed by a matchup between 12th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain against Australian qualifier Max Purcell. The third and final match on Center Court will see 2023 Barcelona finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece take on Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut, scheduled to start no earlier than 6:00 PM local time to accommodate prime-time broadcast audiences across Europe, Latin America and North America. Outer courts will also host high-stakes matches, including a clash between former world No. 3 Dominic Thiem and 18th seed Lorenzo Musetti on Pista 1 at 12:00 PM local time, and an all-Spanish matchup between wild card Pablo Carreno Busta and qualifier Jaume Munar on Pista 2 at 1:30 PM local time.
Tournament organizers confirmed that all Day 1 general admission and premium seating tickets sold out three weeks in advance, with more than 12,000 fans expected to attend the opening day matches. Tournament director Albert Costa noted in a pre-event press conference that the 2026 edition features 18 of the world's top 25 players competing for the €2.8 million total prize pool and the iconic Conde de Godo trophy.

As a long-time local Barcelona resident and Nadal super fan, I already have tickets for both opening day and Nadal's first match on Tuesday. The Day 1 lineup already looks incredible - the Tsitsipas vs Bautista Agut night match is definitely going to be a classic clay court battle worth showing up early for.
As a tennis analyst, this is easily the strongest opening day lineup of any ATP 500 event this season. The Thiem vs Musetti match on the outer court is a sleeper must-watch; both players are in great form on clay this season and that match could easily be better than some of the later round matches at other events.
I've been watching Alcaraz play in Barcelona the past three years and he's basically unbeatable on these courts. I can't wait to see how the first round matches play out on April 13 to see who will be the biggest threat to his title defense run this year.
I grabbed my general admission ticket back in March and I'm so excited to travel to Barcelona for the opening day! I'm planning to bounce between the outer courts and center court all day to catch as many matches as possible, it's going to be such a fun start to the week of tennis.
