In a recent press interview ahead of the tournament, Eala shared that she has watched the Stuttgart Open for years as a fan, and always dreamed of competing on its iconic indoor clay courts. “This is such a special tournament, so many legends of the sport have lifted the trophy here, from Steffi Graf to Serena Williams, and more recently Iga Swiatek. Just being able to step on the same court as these players I’ve looked up to my whole life is an absolute honor,” Eala said. She added that she has spent the past four weeks adjusting her game to clay court conditions, focusing on improving her sliding technique, baseline consistency, and drop shot accuracy to adapt to the slower surface. Currently ranked No. 132 in the WTA singles rankings, Eala is the highest-ranked female tennis player from the Philippines, and has been steadily climbing the rankings over the past two years with consistent performances in ITF World Tennis Tour events and occasional WTA main draw appearances. The Stuttgart Open, which offers a $780,600 prize pool and a custom Porsche sports car for the singles champion, has one of the most competitive draw sheets of the clay season, with top 10 players including Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, and Elena Rybakina all confirmed to compete in 2024.
