One Piece Officially Names Nerona Imu Its #1 Strongest Character, Full Power Details Revealed

Key keywords: One Piece, Nerona Imu, strongest One Piece character, Eiichiro Oda, One Piece Final Saga, Void Century, One Piece power scaling, Holy Knights, Monkey D. Luffy, World Government The long-running global hit shonen manga One Piece has officially put an end to 25 years of fan debate over the franchise’s most powerful figure, with series creator Eiichiro Oda confirming in the latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump that Nerona Imu, the secret immortal ruler of the World Government, holds the official title of the series’ #1 strongest character. For decades, the One Piece fan base has debated endlessly over whether the top power rank belonged to late Pirate King Gol D. Roger, “Strongest Man in the World” Whitebeard, protagonist Monkey D. Luffy in his Gear 5 Sun God Nika form, or the dual-Devil Fruit wielding Emperor Blackbeard, making the official reveal a massive bombshell for the global community. Oda’s official lore drop lays out the full scope of Imu’s never-before-seen powers for the first time. As the 800-year-old leader of the Nerona family, the founding dynasty that erased the Void Century and established the World Government, Imu holds a mythical Zoan Devil Fruit of unknown classification that grants him the ability to manipulate raw void energy, erase physical matter on a continental scale, and regenerate from any fatal wound in under a second. The latest published chapter shows Imu using less than 10% of his power to completely erase the entire island nation of Lulusia in 8 seconds flat, with Revolutionary Army chief of staff Sabo – a confirmed Emperor-level Logia user – barely escaping with critical injuries even after fleeing the island at full speed before the attack landed. Additional official details confirm Imu’s combat power far outclasses the Five Elders, who each individually hold power exceeding that of average Yonko (Emperor of the Sea) level fighters, and he personally commands the Holy Knights, an elite military unit with combined strength matching the entire Navy Admiral corps. The reveal also retroactively contextualizes Gol D. Roger’s choice to spark the Great Pirate Era: Roger and his crew learned of Imu’s existence and unbeatable strength when they reached Laugh Tale, and realized no single pirate crew could stand against Imu alone, so he intentionally turned himself in to execute a global call for pirates to rise up and build a force powerful enough to overthrow the World Government’s secret ruler. Industry analysts note that the reveal completely reframes the entire Final Saga of One Piece, shifting the expected final conflict from a race between Luffy and Blackbeard for the One Piece treasure to a massive cross-faction war that will unite the Straw Hat Pirates, Revolutionary Army, remaining Emperors, and rebel nations against Imu and the full might of the World Government.

Wait, I’ve spent 15 years arguing Whitebeard was the undisputed strongest character in One Piece, Oda really just dropped this out of nowhere? Imu erasing a whole island in seconds without breaking a sweat makes Gear 5 Luffy look like a total rookie right now, I can’t even imagine how the final fight is gonna play out at this rate.

This power scaling actually makes perfect sense if you re-read the last 100 chapters. All the little hints about the empty throne, the Void Century cover-up, the way the Five Elders bow to Imu like he’s a literal god – of course he’s stronger than every other character we’ve seen so far. I’m lowkey convinced Luffy will need the full power of the Nika fruit plus all three Ancient Weapons just to stand a chance against him.

All the takes that Imu was just a non-combatant political figure are so dead now, Oda really loves subverting every single fan theory. I’m so hyped for the Final Saga now that we know the actual big bad is this overpowered immortal god king, I can’t wait to see how the Straw Hats, Revolutionary Army, and even the remaining Emperors team up to take him down.

This reveal changes literally everything about how I see the whole series. Roger didn’t start the Great Pirate Era just for people to find his treasure, he did it to build an army strong enough to fight Imu! I’m already counting down the days until we get to see Imu go all out in a fight, it’s gonna be the most insane battle in shonen history.
