Key keywords: Prince William, Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, royal baby name, Wales family newborn, British royal family, Kensington Palace announcement, Prince Arthur of Wales, royal fourth child, St Mary's Hospital Lindo Wing Kensington Palace released an official statement on Wednesday morning confirming that the Prince and Princess of Wales, widely known as Prince William and Kate Middleton, have formally introduced their fourth child and newest family member to the world, alongside the highly anticipated reveal of the baby’s full name. The newborn, a boy, was born on Monday morning at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, the same location where the couple welcomed their three older children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Kensington Palace confirmed both mother and baby are healthy and resting comfortably at their family home in Windsor, following a short stay in the hospital. The couple shared that they have named their son Arthur Philip Louis Wales, with the young royal holding the official title of His Royal Highness Prince Arthur of Wales. A source close to the family explained that the name carries deep personal and historical significance for the couple: Arthur is a nod to the legendary British monarch King Arthur, as well as a middle name held by several members of the modern royal family, Philip pays tribute to William’s late grandfather, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and Louis honors both Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, a beloved great-uncle of King Charles III, and matches the first name of the couple’s third child, Prince Louis. Alongside the name announcement, William and Kate shared a sweet first family portrait taken in the private gardens of Adelaide Cottage, their Windsor residence. The photo shows Kate holding the swaddled newborn, with William standing by her side, while George, Charlotte, and Louis grin widely as they lean in to look at their baby brother. King Charles III and Queen Camilla released a separate statement expressing their “utter delight” at the arrival of their seventh grandchild, adding that they have already visited the family at Windsor to meet the new baby. Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, also shared a public message saying they are “thrilled” to welcome another grandson, and revealed that the three older children have been “completely besotted” with Arthur, taking turns picking out toys and blankets for him. The couple has asked for privacy as they adjust to life as a family of six, and confirmed that there are no plans for additional public appearances with Arthur in the immediate future, though he is expected to join the rest of the Wales family for the annual Trooping the Colour parade on the Buckingham Palace balcony next summer.

I’m sobbing at how perfect the name Arthur is! It’s such a timeless, classic royal name, and I love that they included tributes to both sides of their family with the middle names. The first family photo is so warm and genuine, you can tell how happy all of them are right now. Sending all my love to the Wales family!

As someone who lives in Windsor, we’ve been seeing extra security around Adelaide Cottage all week and had a feeling there was big news coming! This is such a lovely surprise for the whole country, it’s nice to have something so positive to focus on. I can’t wait to see little Arthur at Trooping the Colour next year, he’s going to be so spoiled by his older siblings!

I really respect how Will and Kate handle these announcements. They share just enough to keep the public updated, but still make it clear they want privacy for their kids to grow up normally. The name choice is so thoughtful, especially honoring Prince Philip, I know he would have been so proud of this. Congratulations to the whole family!

Princess Charlotte looks so proud to be a big sister again in the new portrait! I swear she’s already taking charge of picking out outfits for Arthur and making sure he has enough stuffed animals. This is the best news I’ve heard all month, the Wales family is just perfect.
