San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk Officially Labeled 'Untradable' Amid 2024 NFL Offseason Trade Rumors, Per League Sources

Key keywords: Brandon Aiyuk, San Francisco 49ers, untradable wide receiver, 2024 NFL offseason, 49ers trade rumors, NFL wide receiver contract extension, Brock Purdy, Kyle Shanahan, 2023 NFL regular season performance. Multiple confirmed reports from NFL insiders at ESPN and NFL Network revealed on Wednesday that the San Francisco 49ers front office has officially categorized fourth-year wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk as completely untradable, and will reject all incoming trade offers for the 26-year-old playmaker regardless of the compensation proposed. The announcement ends months of rampant speculation across the league that Aiyuk could be moved ahead of the 2024 season to clear salary cap space or acquire additional draft capital. Aiyuk is coming off the best campaign of his professional career in 2023, where he recorded 78 receptions for 1,326 yards and 7 touchdowns across 17 regular season games, adding another 214 yards and 2 touchdowns in the postseason to help lead the 49ers to a Super Bowl LVIII appearance. His chemistry with starting quarterback Brock Purdy ranked top 5 among all QB-WR duos in the league last season, with a 68% catch rate on contested throws and 12 plays of 25+ yards from scrimmage. League sources confirm that at least 7 NFL teams, including the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and New York Giants, reached out to the 49ers over the past two months to inquire about trading for Aiyuk, with some offers including a 2025 first-round pick plus an additional second-round selection. All offers were turned down immediately, per insiders. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has repeatedly emphasized in internal staff meetings that Aiyuk is an irreplaceable part of the team’s offensive system, with his route running precision, contested catch ability and yards-after-catch skill perfectly aligning with the 49ers’ west coast offensive scheme. The team has already opened contract extension negotiations with Aiyuk’s representation, with both sides aiming to finalize a 4-year deal worth between $120 million and $130 million with over $75 million in guaranteed money before the start of the 2024 regular season. The 49ers recently restructured contracts for several veteran players to free up enough cap space to complete the extension, eliminating the only factor that previously made a potential trade plausible. General manager John Lynch noted in an anonymous interview that Aiyuk is a core piece of the team’s long-term build, and any discussion of trading him would be a waste of time for all parties involved.

Lifelong 49ers fan here, I’ve been stressing for weeks seeing all the Aiyuk trade rumors, this is the best news I’ve heard all offseason. Dude carried our passing attack through the playoff run last year, pairing him with Deebo Samuel and George Kittle gives Brock Purdy the best skill group in the league hands down.

As an NFL salary cap analyst, this is such a smart move by the 49ers front office. The market for elite number 1 wide receivers is insane right now, you’d never be able to get a player of Aiyuk’s caliber with the draft picks teams were offering. Locking him down long term keeps their Super Bowl window open for the next 4-5 years easily.

Patriots fan here, was really holding out hope we could trade for Aiyuk to give rookie QB Drake Maye a true number 1 target to develop with. Makes sense the Niners wouldn’t let him go though, he’s easily one of the most underrated all-around wide receivers in the entire league right now.

Fantasy football manager here, I’m immediately bumping Aiyuk up 5 spots in my 2024 wide receiver rankings. Now that we know he’s staying in San Francisco’s high-powered offense with Purdy throwing to him, he’s a total lock for 1200+ yards and double-digit touchdowns this season.
