After months of fan speculation and behind-the-scenes negotiations, Starz and Netflix have officially announced a landmark multi-year content licensing deal that will bring the entire global hit Power franchise to Netflix libraries, starting with the U.S. market on October 1, 2024. Created by showrunner Courtney A. Kemp and executive produced by hip-hop icon Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, the Power universe first launched on Starz in 2014 as a gritty crime drama following New York City nightclub owner and drug kingpin James "Ghost" St. Patrick, as he struggled to balance his illegal empire, legitimate business ambitions, and complicated family life. The original series ran for six critically acclaimed, record-breaking seasons, becoming the highest-rated show in Starz history and spawning four interconnected spin-offs that expanded the universe across different timelines and character arcs.
Under the terms of the new deal, Netflix will gain non-exclusive streaming rights to all existing Power content, including the full six seasons of the original Power series, all four completed seasons of Power Book II: Ghost (which follows Ghost’s son Tariq as he navigates college and the criminal underworld), three seasons of the 1990s-set prequel Power Book III: Raising Kanan, two seasons of the Chicago-set Power Book IV: Force centered on fan-favorite character Tommy Egan, and the upcoming fifth season of Power Book II: Ghost, which will premiere on Starz in September 2024 before arriving on Netflix 90 days after its season finale.
For both platforms, the partnership represents a high-impact strategic move. For Starz, the deal generates significant incremental revenue from licensing fees, while also tapping into Netflix’s 260 million global subscribers to expose the Power franchise to new audiences, many of whom are expected to sign up for Starz subscriptions to access future Power seasons and exclusive content ahead of their Netflix release. For Netflix, the addition of the Power universe fills a key gap in its slate of adult-oriented crime dramas, bringing in a pre-existing, highly engaged fanbase that has long requested access to the franchise on the platform. Industry analysts project that the Power collection will rank among Netflix’s top 10 most viewed titles within the first week of its U.S. launch, with viewership expected to surge even higher as the franchise rolls out to Canadian, UK, and Australian Netflix libraries in late 2024, and to all other global markets by the end of 2025.

Finally! I’ve been waiting years to rewatch the original Power series without paying for a separate Starz subscription. I binged the first two seasons of Raising Kanan when it was available on a free trial, but never got to finish it, so this is the best streaming news I’ve heard all year.
This is such a smart move for both platforms. The Power franchise has one of the most loyal fanbases on TV right now, and Netflix’s global reach is going to turn it into an even bigger cultural phenomenon. I can already see non-US viewers discovering it and making it trend on the platform for weeks after it drops.
I’m most excited that all the spin-offs are coming too! Power Book IV: Force is so underrated because it was only accessible to Starz subscribers, and now more people are going to see how great Joseph Sikora is as Tommy Egan. I really hope this deal means we get even more Power spin-off announcements down the line.
As someone who’s never seen a single episode of Power before, I’ve been seeing so many viral clips and references online that I’m definitely going to binge the whole series as soon as it hits Netflix. It’s about time they made this franchise more accessible to casual viewers.
