Just three days after the Indiana Fever’s heartbreaking 2-point overtime loss to the Connecticut Sun last weekend, starting guard Lexie Hull sat down for a wide-ranging interview to share both her structured post-loss recovery plan and her favorite accessible off-court fashion tips, giving fans a rare look at the balance between her professional athletic duties and personal lifestyle.
Hull, who logged a career-high 38 minutes on the court during the overtime match, noted that the first 48 hours after a high-stakes loss are critical for both physical and mental recovery. “Right after we got back to the locker room, I did 12 minutes of full-body cold therapy to reduce inflammation in my knees and ankles, which took a beating from all the extra overtime running,” she explained. “For the next 24 hours, I stick to a very specific routine: 20 minutes of gentle restorative yoga first thing in the morning, a protein-rich diet focused on grilled chicken, leafy greens and recovery smoothies, and zero high-intensity movement. Mentally, I make it a rule to not rewatch game footage for at least 12 hours after a loss, and I always call my parents and write down 3 things I did well in the game before I note any areas I want to improve. It’s so easy to fixate on the missed shots or the turnover that led to the loss, but that mindset doesn’t help you show up better for the next game.”
When the conversation shifted to her widely praised off-court style, Hull, who studied product design at Stanford before entering the WNBA, shared that fashion has long been her favorite way to decompress and express her personality outside of her team uniform. “I get a lot of messages from young female athletes asking how to look put-together without sacrificing comfort, especially when you’re coming straight from practice or a team meeting,” she said. “My go-to combo right now is an oversized neutral blazer, high-waisted biker shorts, a plain white tank, and supportive white sneakers. It’s comfortable enough to wear to treatment, but polished enough if I need to grab coffee with friends or attend a team event afterwards. I also love upcycling old team merch: I recently cut up an old Fever jersey and turned it into a crop top that I pair with high-waisted jeans for game day watch parties with my friends. I also only shop from small, sustainable fashion brands whenever I can, because it’s important to me to support creators who make size-inclusive, durable pieces that work for people with active lifestyles.”
Hull also added that she’s looking forward to leading the Fever’s upcoming community fashion workshop for teen girl athletes in Indianapolis next month, where she’ll lead sessions on both recovery best practices and DIY fashion customization for sports apparel. “The overtime loss stung, no question about it,” she said. “But we have 12 more regular season games left this year, and I’m focused on showing up rested, focused, and ready to bring my best for my team every single night.”
